August 11: LAS SALINAS GRANDES

As soon as we landed in Purmamarca, we arrived just on time to catch the "Las Salinas" afternoon excursion. The most amazing thing in Argentina is the landscape surprising you on a regular basis as it actually totally changes every 5 km. Among the massive mountains' shades of green, gray and pink, a huge bright white flat surface sparkling on a blue sky suddenly stands there, out of nowhere. Impressive natural contradiction: breathtaking patterns, unpredictable beauty! "Las Salinas" visually looks like a snow field however the site is made out of salt. The origin of this great salar is associated with Mar Chiquita's great lagoon existence. The climate is continental, particularly dry with very high summer temperatures. Not to forget the site's 3350m height. Simply awesome!
