23 provinces, 2nd largest country in South America 8th in the world, 2.766.890 km2, 3900 Km long 1400 Km wide, 40.482 million people, July 9 independence day, 8 major rivers "Paranà" being the largest, spanish speaking, currency: pesos.
Buenos aires
27 quarters, 3rd largest city in South America, 13 million people, situated at Rio de la Plata shore, named after sanctuary "Nostra Signora di Bonaria" in Sardinia.
Maté
"Chimarrão" or "cimarrón" (barbarian, brute). Named by spanish conquests to describe natives' sour drink. Traditionnal beverage prepared with yerba maté leaves and hot (not boiled) water. Can also be served cold ("téréré"). National drink in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, eastern Bolivia, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. A metal straw (bombilla) is necessary. Contains cafeine. Syria is the biggest yerba maté importer in the world.
Coca leaves
Traditionally cultivated in the lower altitudes of the eastern slopes of the Andes (the Yungas). Consumed by the Andean peoples of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, north Argentina and Bolivia. The plant grows to a height of 2–3 m (7–10 ft) and the flowers mature into berries. Medical applications to overcome fatigue, hunger, thirst, asthma, to improve digestion, longevity, and to prevent nosebleeding, altitude sickness. During the "Topa Inca" period (1471-1493), the plant had divine and religious origins and was restricted to nobles and a few favored classes. Traces of coca have been found in mummies dating 3000 years back. The plant has an international legal status and is used for different matters (drug, stimulant, flavoring agent (coca-cola soda), tea, herbal liqueur..).
